Reading Buddies

One of my favorite activities that we do on Day 2 is reading buddies. Our class and Mrs.Ateca's Kindergarten class get together and read. The students love seeing their reading buddies each week. This past week we were able to help Mrs. Ateca's class do their clothes pin wreaths. Everyone worked really hard and had a great time working together. Here are a few pictures from our fun time.

Foundations and Framework

There are many great aspects about the new reading program, but my favorite is the intellectual art. After  the students are finished reading their book for the unit they get the opportunity to expand on their learning. The students are given a sheet of butcher paper and encouraged to put what they have learned from the unit on the sheet. The students are able to think about what they have learned and how they can put it on paper. During the intellectual art day the students learn to work together and divide out task for each student to do. It is always encouraging to walk around the room and see each group working together to make a master piece of what they just learned.

On the butcher paper the students are to include the visual tool that we have been working on, the vocabulary words, their favorite part of the book, how the book connects to them, and any kind of drawings they would like to add.

When they are done with their art work the students present the piece to the rest of the class. The group that is presenting tells the rest of the class about the book that they have been reading.

We just finished our Main Idea reading unit. The students worked very hard on their intellectual art. Here are the 3 different groups with their intellectual art.

The students love intellectual art day. They love to share with the class what they have learned from their reading.

Foundations and Framework has added so much to our school this year.

Have a  great day!

What A Month!

We have been very busy this past month. I wanted to share with you some of the fun things we are doing with technology in our classroom. Each spelling unit I try to use some kind of technology for the students to practice their words with. We have used the iPads, Promethean Board, and the Laptops this month in Spelling.

With the iPads the students are able to get on an app called SpellBoard. On this app they are able to hear their words and then practice spelling them. They can also take a test on their spelling words.

On the Promethean board the students are able to do two different activities. One activity they are able to do is to write their spelling words on the board. First they can see the word, then they cover it up by pushing a button and then they write the word. Another activity we do is with the responders. The students see their spelling words on the board then they have to pick out the word that is spelled correctly. They students are doing a great job with these activities.

On the Laptops the students can get on Spelling City and practice their words in many different ways. There are games that they can play and work with their words on. They can also write stories on the website. Another activity they can do is take a spelling test. The students seem to enjoy playing on the website and working with their words. You can get on the 3rd grade spelling city web page by going here: www.spellingcity.com/jkrobinson .

Technology is a fun way that the students can work with their words. I am so glad that BBS has such a wide variety of tools for the students to use.

Here are a few pictures of the students using the different tools.

Chapel

Yesterday in chapel two of our classmates received their AR shirt. The third grade AR goal for the year is 40 points. I was so excited to see that two of our students already have reached their goal.

Yesterday in chapel Bro. Robby, the pastor at Brainerd Baptist, shared with us about prayer. He encouraged the students to get up 7 minutes early everyday and pray for five different things.
1. People closes to us: Family
2. The people that influence us on a daily basis: Teachers, Preachers, etc.
3. People who are in charge of us: President
4. People who are weak
5. Ourselves

I encourage you to wake up your child early and pray with them about these 5 things.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful long weekend,

First Week

These past couple days have flown by. We have been very busy getting to know each other and learning all about what goes on in 3rd grade. We will dive into our new reading unit on Monday. I am very excited to get going with our new unit.

I have really enjoyed getting to know all of the new students. Each student brings something special to the classroom. Here is a picture from our recess time today.

Hope everyone has a great weekend,

It's that Time

It is time to get into the classroom and start setting things up. I am excited to start off this school year. I have a great class that I can not wait to meet. I have a ton of work to do, but I am so thrilled to begin this school year.

I am hoping to stay a little more organized this year, starting with my classroom library. I am eager to get it all organized so that students will be able to find exactly the book they are looking for. This will make it will be easier for students to find a book to start reading, not spend 20 minutes at the library area and then DEAR time is over. Hopefully this will help :)

Time to go get everything ready,

Ms. Robinson
